Summary
Map of the naval engagement of November 13, 1942, at 01:45 just before several U.S. warships began to turn left (indicated by dotted black arrow) in preparation to engage the Japanese ships and the U.S. column began to jumble. The Japanese warship groups are represented by red arrows (from top to bottom):
- Samidare, Murasame, and Asagumo (top arrow)
- Teruzuki, Amatsukaze, and Yukikaze (second from top arrow)
- Kirishima and Hiei (centre-left arrow)
- Nagara (centre arrow)
- Harusame and Yudachi (centre-right arrow)
- Ikazuchi, Akatsuki, and Inazuma (bottom arrow)
The ships of both sides began to fire at 01:48.
