From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Leonardo da Vinci was a genius from the Renaissance period. He was born, April 15, 1452, in Vinci, Italy, just outside Florence. When Leonardo was 15 his father apprenticed him to Andrea del Verrochio in the city of Florence. Even at this young age Da Vinci showed his amazing talents and his artistic abilities. Because his interests were so broad he failed to produce as many pieces as most famous artists have. In 17 years he managed to complete six works of art including, "The Last Supper" and "The Virgin on the Rocks." Leonardo was an amazing artist but he excelled just as well in many other subjects including, some sciences, the human anatomy, and mechanics. From 1513 to 1516, Da Vinci worked on numerous projects for the Pope. After the death of Giuliano de' Medici in March of 1516 he was appointed Premier Painter and Engineer and Architect of the King by Francis I of France. On May 2, 1519, Leonardo da Vinci died in Cloux, France.
