Original five step lock structure on the Erie Canal now used as a cascade for excess water. A similar lock structure to the left has been replaced with a 40 foot wide single step lock lifting 60 feet. This was the most complex lock structure on the canal, located where it crosses the Niagara Escarpment, the same geological structure that created the Niagara Falls.
