The Discovery of Phosphorus (1771) by Joseph Wright of Derby.

Beware that this caption may be incorrect; my recollection is that it depicts the discovery of phosphorous by Scheele. Also the picture seems flipped left-to-right. Jorge Stolfi 04:10, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

The painter of this work of art is indeed Joseph Wright of Derby, the name of the painting is however "The Discovery of Phosphorus". Jeff Hughes 04:05, 4 August 2006

According to the copy in Wikicommons, the title is "The Alchymist, In Search of the Philosopher’s Stone, Discovers Phosphorus, and prays for the successful Conclusion of his operation, as was the custom of the Ancient Chymical Astrologers" Goldfritha 01:47, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
