Image title Preservation by NBS in 1951 of the Declaration of Independence (shown) and the Constitution of the United States followed ear's of research on the permanence of governmental documents. Light, heat, humidity, and many other factors were assessed, but the principal enemy of records proved to be the common air pollutant, sulphur dioxide.
