The coat of arms is based on a picture at the website of the Presidency of Nicaragua. The blue tone is officially defined as 'cobalt blue'; Pantone 300C used here is recommended by Album des Pavillons and . The proportions for the flag are 3:5 and for the stripes 1:1:1. The height of the coat of arms is 9:10 compared to the height of the middle stripe.
