Since it was published in 1918, I am confident that this image of the New York Times front page is public domain. However it was retrieved from the NY Times Historical Archive and it's possible that the database has some copyright claim on the image.

No, they don't. They can make claims about how you can use their archive, but the image has entered in the public domain and that can't be changed. -- Fastfission 20:48, 10 September 2005 (UTC)
