The Data Science Lab, or dlab for short, is a research group in the School of Computer and Communication Sciences at EPFL in Lausanne, Switzerland.
In our research, we distill heaps of raw data into meaningful insights by developing and applying algorithms and techniques in areas including
- natural language processing,
- AI and machine learning,
- computational social science, and
- social and information network analysis.
Typically, the data we work with is generated by humans (e.g., natural language or behavioral traces), and frequently it is collected on the Web (e.g., using wikis, online news, social media, server logs, online games, etc.).

And if you want to distract yourself for a minute, consider playing our games with a purpose:
or watching the talks posted on our YouTube channel.
Our work is partly funded by grants from the Swiss National Science Foundation, the Swiss Data Science Center, Microsoft, and CROSS, and by generous awards from Google and Facebook.
